Where to go in Santorini?

Ancient Akrotiri is an archaeological dig site where are unearthed the ruins of civilization from thousands of years BC. The ancient city is a historical and archaeological treasure found during excavation works in 1967. Then there was found a real city of Minoan, which disappeared deep beneath the ground after an enormous volcano eruption in 1613 BC. The city, its streets and houses have been reconstructed and now it is possible to walk along the ancient streets, and have a look at well-preserved three-stored buildings and roads, drainage system and almost 4 000 years old pottery. With all the earthquakes torturing the island some of the former cities are still under the water and there is still a lot to discover.
Museum of Prehistoric Thera

The treasures found in the ancient and beautiful Akrotiri are kept there – in the Museum of Prehistoric Thera. There are displayed impressively old and magnificent artworks and artefacts like: marble figurines, paintings, tools and weapons of those times, fresco, sculpture, jewellery and painted ceramics. Museum of Prehistoric Thera is located in Fira, the capital of Santorini. Some of the most famous exhibits in the museum were found in 1900 – they are supposed to be the remains and household items of a legendary Spartan colony.
Oia

Oia is a small exquisite and chic village at the northern end of Santorini only 12 km from Fira, the capital. Everything there looks like a postcard: stunning sunsets, steep paths, magnificent cliffs. There you can enjoy a spectacular view at caldera and the rest of the island, simply walking from Oia to Fira. Start your walk from Oia’s main street, full of small shops and galleries, and visit one of two world-known restaurants “Ambrosia” or “Ochre”, known for great views and hundreds of wines.
Santo Winery

Santo Winery is more than just a place with variety of wines, cheese and delicious Greek olives. This is as an amazing place at Pyrgos village area, with breathtaking scenery, where you can enjoy caldera view and best sunsets in the world. «Santo Wines» is one of the largest wineries in the island founded in 1947. Being there make sure to try «Vin Santo» wine, made from dried grapes, which is the business card of the winery. This place is very popular for weddings, with its marvellous terrace, red carpets and fabulous atmosphere of lost continent of Atlantis.
